Move over, elaborate Croquembouche, flaky, buttery croissants, and mille feuille, perfected by generations of Parisian bakers, another pastry has taken France by storm — the hot glazed Krispy Kreme donut.



Despite their infamous pretension and love of fancy pastries, it appears the French are just like us, in that they too will demolish some cheap donuts. When Paris’ inaugural Krispy Kreme location opened its doors for the first time last Wednesday, roughly 500 Parisians braved the chilly December weather — some even camping overnight — to be among the first to taste of the quintessentially American treat per the New York Times.


Despite sparking international headlines, few were surprised at the Parisian taste for American donuts, heading to Twitter with a rare moment of Patriotism.



“The American empire marches on. All night queues for Krispy Kreme in Paris as France becomes the second largest market in the world for Burger King,” @esaagar captioned a screengrab of the article. “They may pretend to turn up their nose at us but they can't get enough of our food.”

But whether American fare is a passing trend or a newfound French staple, one thing is certain — to paraphrase @Zeroblaster we are most definitely in the businessof exporting our obesity crisis one nation at a time.
